Security method for implementation in an electronic component involves use of a cryptographic algorithm using calculation means designed to implement exponentiation calculations. An Independent claim is made for an electronic component with a random number generator (6) and a program memory (3) that contains several exponentiation algorithms. The invention also relates to a corresponding smart card.
