Method for detection of a motif within a digital image by successive comparison of the contents of a current window (31) of the image with respect to the contents of a reference window that is representative of the motif. The reference window contains variance values in motif pixel sub-blocks, while the current window contains variance values in image pixel sub-blocks, the sub-blocks having the same size in both the current and reference windows. The invention also relates to a corresponding system.
