The boat sail reefing system comprises a mast (1), a boom (2) and a rope (4) whose first end (5) is accessible in order to reef the sail and passes through an eyelet (6) in the edge of the sail (3) before fitting in the boom on one side and leaving on the other side to pass through another eyelet (7) on the sail other side. The second end (8) of the rope is fixed to the boom and allows, by traction on its first end to lower the sail and reef. Each eyelet comprises a rope guide sheave with its axis angularly displaced relative to the plane of the sail.
