Procedure for estimating fuel richness of mixture burned in i.c. engine with fuel injection uses Kalman estimator and set equations

The procedure, designed to estimate the fuel richness of a mixture burned in each cylinder (11 - 14) of an i.c. engine with fuel injection, employs a single richness measuring probe (50) in the engine's exhaust manifold (20) and a Kalman estimator using one equation for condition and another for measurement. The condition equation takes into account, using a control matrix, a control vector with each component represented by the ratio of air to fuel in each cylinder, while the Kalman estimator is valid for the whole field of the engine's operation.
