Method of permanent waving of human hair comprises application of reducing composition to tensioned hair, rinsing, fixing by contact with air or with a fixing solution and re-rinsing, in which the reducing composition comprises aminated acid with thiol group and the reducing solution comprises a catalytic system of manganese and/or zinc salt and/or oxide and alkali metal bicarbonate. Method of permanent waving of human hair by applying a reducing composition to tensioned hair, rinsing, optionally removing the means of tensioning, fixing by contact with air or with a fixing solution and re-rinsing, in which the reducing composition comprises an aminated acid with a thiol group and the reducing or fixing solution comprises a catalytic system comprising a manganese and/or zinc salt and/or oxide and an alkali metal bicarbonate. The molar concentrations of Mn(II) and or Zn(II) salt or oxide and the alkali metal bicarbonate in the reducing and/or fixing compositions are such that (Mn(II)) or (Zn(II)) or (Mn(II)+Zn(II))/HCO3 is less than or equal to 1.
