PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a terahertz electromagnetic wave oscillation and a detecting element that use a high-temperature superconducting intrinsic Josephson junction.;SOLUTION: Terahertz electromagnetic wave oscillation and the detecting element are provided with a superconducting single-crystal mesa structure 300, where an instrinsic Josephson junction of a superconducting layer and an insulating layer is laminated in series. There are included an electromagnetic wave oscillation part A, enabling a teraherts electromagnetic wave to oscillate, an insulating part C making contact with the electromagnetic wave oscillation part A which does not have conductivity, and an electromagnetic wave detecting part B which makes contact with an insulating part C and can detect terahertz electromagnetic waves.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
