PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a midgut gland of a shellfish with which the midgut gland can easily, rapidly and sanitarily be removed without staining other parts of the shellfish and to provide an apparatus for removing the midgut gland used therefor.;SOLUTION: The method for removing the midgut gland of the shellfish comprises breaking a tunic of the midgut gland with a suction tool of a suction apparatus or thrusting the suction tool, sucking and removing the midgut gland in the tunic through the suction tool with the suction apparatus. Furthermore, the tunic is broken with a breaking tool and the midgut gland in the tunic is then sucked and removed with the suction apparatus separate from the breaking tool. The tunic is sucked and removed together with or after the suction and removal of the midgut gland. The apparatus is equipped with the suction tool thrusting into the tunic of the midgut gland or breaking the tunic or damaging a part or all of the tunic, the suction apparatus sucking the interior of the suction tool and a tank for storing the midgut gland sucked with the suction apparatus. Furthermore, the apparatus is equipped with the breaking tool for breaking the tunica of the midgut gland, the suction apparatus for sucking the midgut gland in the broken tunic and the tank for storing the midgut gland sucked with the suction apparatus.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
