PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for hydrogenating a hydrocarbon oil by using a catalyst for hydrogenation, exhibiting excellent desulfurization activities on various kinds of the hydrocarbon oils, especially exhibiting high-degree hydrogenation activities such as desulfurization activities, and sediment formation-inhibiting activities in the treatment of a heavy oil, and keeping the high-degree hydrogenation activities and the sediment formation-inhibiting activities.;SOLUTION: This method for hydrogenating the hydrocarbon oil uses a following catalyst for the hydrogenation, added to a conventional catalyst for the hydrogenation in the hydrogenation of the hydrocarbon oil: the hydrogenation catalyst comprises a silica-alumina-based carrier and a metal component having hydrogenation activities and carried by the carrier, has 150-400 m2/g specific surface area, 0.3-1.2 ml/g total pore volume, the first peak of the pore size distribution within a range of 40-200 Å of a specified pore diameter, and the second peak within a range of 200-2,000 Å of the pore diameter. The pores in the two ranges of the pore diameters exhibit each peculiar pore characteristics, and especially the first peak has a sharp shape.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
