PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of contents confirmation work of a moving image and to extract a representative image that reflects scene transition in the moving image.;SOLUTION: The number of sheets information reading part 12 sets the number of sheets of the representative image a user wants to extract before reading. A moving image reading part 13 reads inputted moving image data. A frame image acquiring part 14 obtains a frame image from the read moving image data, and a feature value calculating part 15 calculates an image feature value. A representative image determining part 16 calculates representative values for as many as the number of sheets of the representative image read by the number of sheets information reading part 12 from the image feature value and determines a frame image with the representative values as a representative image. In the obtaining of the frame image and the determination of the representative image, a method for obtaining the frame image in a fixed time interval is combined with a method for obtaining a frame image in which an image feature value temporally and rapidly changes.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
