PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for supporting a doctor's diagnostic decision. PSOLUTION: This system comprises a data collection interface which receives clinical data and physical or physiological patient record data; a memory for storing expert medical rules; and a computer-aided detection unit which receives the patient record data and provides information highlighting a lesion. An inference engine within the system receives the clinical data from the interface, the expert rules from the memory storing the medical rules and the information provided by the computer-aided detection unit, and provides recommendations for aiding decision-taking. The system can also be constituted to provide the recommendations to the doctor while the doctor is examining the patient. PCOPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
