PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate a concentration of photochemically generated ozone without measuring a concentration in every kind of reactive hydrocarbon to predict the concentration of the photochemically generated ozone based on a reaction rate of the hydrocarbon with OH radical.;SOLUTION: Ozone in the atmosphere 11 is photodecomposed by irradiation of a pump laser beam 2c to generate excited oxygen atom O (1D), and the excited oxygen atom O (1D) reacts with steam to generate OH radical. The OH radical is irradiated with a probe laser beam 3e to electron-excite the OH radical, and fluorescence in transition of excited electron by relaxation is measured time-serially. Fluorescence intensity is proportional to a concentration of the OH radical, and a concentration of generated photochemical oxidant is predicted based on a time-serial change of the concentration of the OH radical.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
