The provision for preventing the growth of micro-organisms and bacteria, such as legionella, in fire hose reels comprises a three-way coupling (D) with three coupling points (1,2,3), one of which is connected to the feeding water mains (4). Both the reel (5) with the fire hose as well as the spray mouthpiece (5b) of the fire hose are both connected to the other coupling points of the three-way coupling. The coupling point to which the reel with the fire hose is connected is provided with a temperature meter with a control unit (T/S). The coupling point to which the spray mouthpiece is connected is provided with a circulation pump which is controlled by the temperature meter in combination with the fact that the spray mouthpiece is connected to the three-way coupling.
