In order to provide a composite buy or sell recommendationfor a specified financial instrument, a neural network isused to derive predictions of instrument performance overa future time period for each of a plurality of financialinstruments such as stocks or structural funds. Then thepredictions are compared with corresponding buy or sellrecommendations for the financial instruments made by aplurality of financial analysts for the future timeperiod. This enables for each of the financial analysts,a factor to be obtained indicating the degree ofcorrespondence between the predictions and thecorresponding buy or sell recommendations. The compositebuy or sell recommendation is then calculated as aweighted average of specific buy or sell recommendationsmade by the analysts for the specified financialinstrument, the weighting given to each specificrecommendation for the weighted average being based on thecorresponding one of the factors.
