Process for changing the position of sausage chains during manufacture, using two parallel endless transport belts (11a, 11b), comprises moving the sausages of the chain in a first direction between the belts; transporting over a first length (41) in the first direction; deviating from the belts in a second direction (49); and transporting to a higher position over a second length (43) in the second direction. The distance between the transport belts during transportation in the second direction is more than during the transport in the first direction. An Independent claim is also included for a device for changing the position of sausage chains during manufacture. Preferred Features: The distance of the belts during transport in the first direction is not more than the filling caliber of the sausage.
