Method of synthesis of confined colloidal crystals using electrodeposition.The present invention provides a method of growing confined colloidal crystalstructures using electrodeposition of monodispersed charged colloid spheresonto a substrate patterned with an array of electroconductive surface relieffeatures on a surface of a substrate. In this approach, control over large-scaleordering is achieved via a planar pattern whose scale is on the order of tensofmicrons, a regime readily accessed through coarse lithography, lasermicromachining, and holography.
