Interadermal delivery device, and method of intradermal delivery

A device for intradermal delivery having a housing containing a syringe (312) for injecting a substance at a predetermined insertion depth and a base assembly for tensioning a target area of skin. One embodiment tensions the skin by vacuum and another by expansion of a mounting surface in contact with the skin. Upon tensioning the target area, a needle (336) extends into the target area to the insertion depth. At the insertion depth, a plunger (332) depresses within the syringe (312) and delivers the substance therein through the needle (336). Upon completing injection, the needle (336) retracts, the skin tensioning is released and the intradermal delivery device is removed.
