A plate material bending machine that automatically detects and measures the bend angle (amount of bend) during the bending of the plate material and feeds back the data thereon to a bending means, thereby accurately providing the terminal bend angle, and that, by applying this feedback control, provides excellent plate material bend-passage accuracy. A plate material bending machine adapted to clamp work (plate material) between a lower die and a presser die and upwardly bend it from the side by a blade with the presser die edge used as a fulcrum to give a forward-bend thereto or downwardly bend it by the blade with the lower die edge used as a fulcrum to give a backward-bend, wherein a bent angle measuring means for forwardly or backwardly bent plate material is incorporated.
