PURPOSE: Provided are compact, flexible and economical nitrogen removal process for municipal and industrial wastewater by using thermal hydrolysate of a thermal hydrolysis process as carbon source, wherein the process is advantageous in high carbon source generation rate, sludge dehydration rate, and sterilization effect. CONSTITUTION: The process comprises a primary sedimentation tank(12) for firstly settling down sludge of wastewater, a nitrogen treatment tank(14) being comprised of a plurality of tanks with mixers and media therein for eliminating nitrogen in effluent of the first sedimentation tank(12), a settling tank(16) for secondly settling down sludge in effluent of the nitrogen treatment tank, a thickening tank(18) for thickening sludge from the first sedimentation tank(12) and the settling tanks(16), a thermal hydrolysis tank(20) for treating the thickened sludge at 150-180C under 5-10 bar for 10-30 minutes, a dehydration tank(22) for dehydrating the thermal hydrolysate, a digestion tank(26) for storing the thermal hydrolysate and fermenting the dehydrated sludge, and an aerobic deammonification tank(32) for treating highly concentrated nitrogen by aerobic deammonification process using filtrate of the dehydration tank(22) and media.
