PURPOSE: A natural compound separated from an ethylacetate faction obtained from a methanol extract of Prunus serrulata Lindley var. spontanea (Max.) Wils. is provided which has an excellent effect on scavenging a DPPH free radical, peroxynitrite, hydroxy radical and active oxygen species. CONSTITUTION: Leaves of Prunus serrulata are refluxed with methanol for 3hr, concentrated at 36 to 50deg.C under vacuum conditions, ethyl acetate is distributed in concentrated powder, the ethyl acetate extract is subjected to column chromatography and mixed with in a ratio of ethyl acetate to methanol of 8:1 to produce 2-o-(6-benzoyl)-glucopyranosyl o-(Z)-coumaric acid, 10 kinds of flavonoids and 2 kinds of triterpenoids.
