PURPOSE: Provided are a process for producing nano porous carbon having improved mechanical strength and the nano porous carbon produced by the process, which has uniform-sized mesopores, a wide surface area, and excellent mechanical stability. CONSTITUTION: The process for producing the nano porous carbon comprises the steps of: synthesizing a non-calcined mesoporous silica mold; injecting a mixture of an addition-polymerizable monomer and an initiator or a mixture of a condensation-polymerizable monomer and an acid catalyst into the mesoporous silica mold and then reacting the injected mixture to obtain a polymer-silica complex; heat-treating the polymer-silica complex at a high temperature to form a carbon-silica complex and then removing the silica mold from the carbon-silica complex by using a solvent. The addition-polymerizable monomer is divinyl benzene, acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, and etc. and the initiator is azobis isobutyronitrile(AIBN), t-butylperacetate, benzoyl peroxide(BPO), and etc. And the condensation-polymerizable monomer is phenol-formaldehyde, phenol, furfuryl alcohol, and etc. and the acid catalyst is sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid.
