PURPOSE: A load carrying capacity reinforcement device and a method for prestressing on steel by stages are provided to promote load carrying capacity for a steel bridge and to prevent the concentration of tensile force on steel. CONSTITUTION: The load carrying capacity reinforcement device and the method for prestressing on steel by stages to promote load carrying capacity for a steel bridge comprise the steps of installing a main tension bracket(24) to both lower sides(22) of steel(20) of a simple beam bridge(10), inserting a steel strand(26) to the main tension bracket(24), then tensioning and anchoring using an anchorage(23), installing an auxiliary tension bracket(25) to both sides of the steel(20), then tensioning and anchoring the steel strand(26).
