PURPOSE: A punching device is provided to reduce the punching time and to avoid the generation of shear droop, burr, split and exfoliation in a perforated hole due to the driving speed of a proper punch by minimizing the movement stroke of the punch. CONSTITUTION: A punching device comprises a die(21), a punch(22) facing the die, and a drive unit(23) driving the punch. A sheet-like work is inserted between the die and the punch. The punch is driven by the drive unit to punch the plate-shape work. The drive unit includes a motor(231) for driving the punch at a stand-by position for placing the sheet-like work between the die and the punch and a punching position for punching the sheet-like work and a control unit for controlling the drive of the motor when the stand-by position is changed.
