PURPOSE: An optical element with a photonic band gap and an optical device provided with the same are provided to improve the reliability related to the optical characteristics such as the increment or suppression of the mode density. CONSTITUTION: An optical device provided with the optical element(20) with a photonic band gap includes at least three thin films(21,22,23). Each of the thin films(21,22,23) has a different refractive index and/or thickness and is repeatedly stacked on a substrate.
