SELF PIERCING FRICTION RIVET FOR JOINING ALUMINUM SHEETS AND METHOD FOR JOINING ALUMINUM SHEETS

PURPOSE: A self piercing friction rivet and a method for joining aluminum sheets are provided to achieve a joining structure having high strength and high toughness characteristics by pressing and melting a rivet and to join sheets of homogeneous materials or mixed materials. CONSTITUTION: A method for joining aluminum sheets includes a step of mounting a self piercing friction rivet(20) at a lower end of a pressing and rotating device(10). An aluminum upper sheet(31) and an aluminum lower sheet(32) are coupled with each other at a lower portion of the pressing and rotating device(10) and supported by a supporting die(40) in order to fixedly overlap the aluminum upper sheet(31) with the aluminum lower sheet(32). A piercing section(22) of the self piercing friction rivet(20) is inserted into the aluminum lower sheet(32) until the piercing section(22) reaches 1/3 to 1/2 of the thickness of the aluminum lower sheet(32).
