Natural herbicidal substance isolated from Erigeron annuus L. and composition containing thereof

PURPOSE: Provided are a natural herbicidal substance isolated from Erigeron annuus L. and a herbicidal composition containing the same. The natural herbicidal substance, (5-butyl-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-furan-2-yl)-acetic acid of the formula(6). CONSTITUTION: (5-butyl-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-furan-2-yl)-acetic acid, as a natural herbicidal substance is represented by the formula(6) and isolated from Erigeron annuus L. A herbicidal composition is characterized by containing the (5-butyl-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-furan-2-yl)-acetic acid and inhibits germination. The (5-butyl-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-furan-2-yl)-acetic acid is obtained by extracting Erigeron annuus L. with methanol, fractioning water and ethylacetate, and subjecting the ethylacetate fraction to silicagel column chromatography.
