PURPOSE: A method for designing a trellis encoder of an MTCM/NCPFSK(Multiple Trellis Coded Modulator for Noncoherent Continuous Phase Frequency Shift Keying) adapted for an interleaved rician fading channel is provided to optimize the trellis encoder by analyzing the error correction performance of the MTCM/NCPFSK under the interleaved rician fading environment. CONSTITUTION: A minimum effective distance of encoders, a distance product corresponding to the minimum effective distance, and a free distance are calculated by using the predetermined algorithm. The encoder for maximizing the effective distance of encoders, the distance product, and the free distance is selected from the encoders.
