PURPOSE: Provided are a method and an apparatus for biologically treating non-degradable materials in contaminated sediment using a volume reduction process, thereby reducing amount of final sediment to be reclaimed in landfill and treatment cost. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a storage tank(1) for storing dredged sediments and adjusting solid concentration in the sediments, a hydro-cyclone(2) for separating coarse particles and micro-particles from the sediments, a first slurry holding tank(3) for storing slurry discharged from an upper portion of the hydro-cyclone(2) and adjusting treatment capability of downstream units, a floating tower(4) for separating hydrophilic particles and hydrophobic particles from the outflow of the first slurry holding tank(3), a second slurry holding tank(5) for storing slurry discharged from the floating tower(4), a first slurry bioreactor(6) for treating non-degradable organic matters in the slurry, a second slurry bioreactor(7) for releasing heavy metals from the slurry, a centrifuge(8) for separating solid and liquid from the outflow of the second slurry bioreactor(7), and a neutralization zone(9) for neutralizing the slurry discharged from the centrifuge(8).
