The method for improving separation of sludge and clear water in the final settling tank (3) in a multi-tank biological treatment plant of waste water involves filling of this tank to a given level with a sludge and water mixture from a preceding biological stage (2), subsequent removal of the clear water (9), and transfer of the sludge to the preliminary settling tank (1). An Independent claim is also included for a plant for implementation of the method.
