The machining device (10) is assembled of a base (11), several carriages (12, 16) moving in three directions (14, 18, 21) and a spindle head (19) carrying the machining tool (23). A tool magazine in the shape of a chain (26, 27) is guided past the spindle head (19) in order to pick up a new tool (23) and join the tool used before to the chain (26, 27). An additional tool magazine (33) in the shape of vertically movable shelves (34) can be accessed by the chain (26, 27), one of the tools (23) is removed from the chain (26, 27) by a horizontally movable gripping element (39) and the chosen tool (23) inserted into the empty space.
