The awning, and especially articulated arm awning, has a fabric (5) rolled onto a shaft (3) in the region of which are provided fabric guides for when it is being retracted and extended. The fabric guide assembly (12) is located above the shaft, extends along the shaft, and is curved in an arc. The fabric guide assembly is formed by a profile which is rounded especially on the upper side and may be formed by a tube. The curvature is formed during a manufacturing process of the fabric guide assembly.
