Production of a supported cocatalyst for olefin polymerization comprises reaction of a compound containing a tri-valent coordinated Group 13 or 15 element with a support and a compound containing a different Group 13 or 15 element
A process for the production of a supported cocatalyst for olefin polymerization comprises reaction of a compound containing a tri-valent coordinated Group 13 or 15 element, a support having functional groups that may covalently bond with the Group 13 or 15 element, and reaction of the resulting product with a compound containing a different Group 13 or 15 element. A process for the production of a supported cocatalyst (I) for olefin polymerization comprises reaction of: (a) (A) a compound containing a tri-valent coordinated Group 13 or 15 element (A1); (b) a support having functional groups such that (A) may covalently bond with it and reaction of the resulting product with; (c) a compound of formula (1). (R1)x-A2-(OH)y (1) A2 = Group 13 or 15 element that is different to A1; R1 = H, halogen, 1-20C alkyl, optionally halogenated, 1-10C alkoxy, 6-20C optionally halogenated aryl, 6-20C aryloxy, 7-40 C optionally halogenated arylalkyl or OSiR23; R2 = H, halogen, 1-20C alkyl, optionally halogenated, 1-10C alkoxy, 6-20C optionally halogenated aryl, 6-20C aryloxy, 7-40C optionally halogenated arylalkyl; y = 1 or 2; and x = 3-y. Independent claims are included for: (1) the supported cocatalyst (I); (2) a catalyst system (II) for the polymerization of olefins, prepared by contact of at least one supported cocatalyst (I) with at least one organo-transition metal compound and optionally an organometallic compound and; (3) a process for the polymerization of olefins by use of the catalyst system (II).
