The telescopic unit (2) to retain and hold the boom and trim the sails has two opposing threaded bodies working with a center section (8). A relative twisting movement between the center section and the two threaded bodies alters the boom support position. The threaded bodies have fork tubes (10,12) to take opposing threaded nuts (14,16) and a holder (18,20) to secure the unit to the boom or the mast foot. The center section has a handle (22) with two keyed threaded rods (24,26).
