Production of sulfated alcohols by reacting an alcohol or alcohol mixture with an acid sulfation product of an alcohol (carrier) or mixture of such sulfation products is such that under the reaction conditions at least one of the acid sulfation products transfers at least part of its acid sulfate groups to at least one of the alcohols to be sulfated.
