The steering angle sensor has a code disc (1) provided with an optical coding which is rotated in conjunction with the steering wheel, with a light source (2) and a light guide block (7) for uniform illumination of the code disc surface provided with the optical coding, a linear photosensor (5) extending radially on the opposite side of the code disc. Relative position deviations between the code disc and the linear photosensor resulting from mechanical tolerances are compensated by at least one secondary light source (3,3'), offset radially from the first light source, with switching between the light sources and selection of the optimum image of the optical coding.
