The switch has an operating knob (1) attached to a mounting plate formed as a housing for reception of touch-control sensors, spaced around the mantle surface of the operating knob and connected to an electronic evaluation circuit, responding to successive operation of the touch-control sensors, for providing an on-off and potentiometer function. Auxiliary sensors (10) incorporated in the operating knob, e.g. piezosensors, can be used for control of a further function, e.g. a display function.
