A wireless network roaming system has a VGSN (Virtual GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) Support Node) to exchange data packets and control signals between low tier WLAN (Wireless Local Area Networks) (600) and high tier GPRS or UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) wireless networks (500) allowing roaming from the narrow band wide area network to the wide band local network and return using data held in the SGSN (GPRS Support Node) (506a-c).
