The method involves forming cuts (16) from the end of the tube piece (1) to form central brackets (8,9) and side flaps (7). An underlay (11) is inserted between the side flaps and the central bracket (9), before a folding apparatus (12) folds the central bracket (8) about a folding line (15) over the side flaps. The central bracket is joined to the side flaps. The underlay is removed before the opening between the central bracket (8) and one tube piece front wall is plugged. The cuts are parallel to each other and to the side edges of the tube piece. An independent claim is also included for a bag making apparatus.
