Telecommunications terminal has cost reducing functionality in the form of a operating mode selection unit (1) that allows selection of one of a number of communication methods, e.g. E-mail, SMS, MMS. A tariff storage unit (6) for storing the associated tariffs is used by an evaluation unit to evaluate transmission costs and generate an evaluation result. Based on the result, a configuration unit blocks at least the most expensive communication method. An independent claim is made for a method for implementing cost reduction in communication via a communication terminal.
