A highly stable polymer electrolyte composite consisting of a polymer electrolyte and an alkylphosphonic acid-containing compound is new. An Independent claim is included for a fuel cell electrode (FCE) consisting of a proton exchange material and an electroconductor (sic) having a catalyst, where the proton exchange material includes at least a high stability polymer electrolyte including phosphorus-containing functional groups or a high stability polymer electrolyte composite (PEC) which includes a polymer electrolyte and an antioxidant or both.
