The water jet fitting (1) cascades water through several gratings (2,5a,5b,14) to break up flow and mix it with air to produce foam. It has a housing (6) made of two parts (7,8) screwed together. It has an entrance sieve (17) at the top. The first grating is shaped to produce an array of convergent nozzles (3) giving many high velocity jets of water. The water jets enter a regulating region (4) and are braked by hitting a second grating with parallel-sided square cells (12). The water passes through a third grating, with the walls of the cells at 45 degrees to the cells of the first grating. The gratings have straight walls crossing each other at regular points (10).
