PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact apparatus adapted for fractional distillation of mixture of liquids containing two or more components by sufficiently mixing the liquids by a wavy spacer plate. ;SOLUTION: The liquid-vapor contact apparatus 22 comprises vertical outer walls 2, 4 disposed by a method for the perpendicular surface of a cube, and a plurality of vertical plates 8. Filler disposed with wavy liquid-vapor contact element 12 is provided between the pair of the plates 8, and the vertexes 20 of the elements are engaged fluidtightly with the plates. The wavy parts of the element 12 are inclined in the inclining direction 16 or 15 and opposite direction 15 or 16 from the vertex to the bottom. The two outermost walls form the walls 4 of a distillation column 22. The liquid is substantially uniformly distributed by the adjacent vertical plates at the vertex of the column 22, fluidized above the element, and effectively fluidized vertically downward. The vapor is substantially uniformly distributed by the adjacent plates 8 at the bottom of the column 24, effectively fluidized vertically upward and brought into close contact with the vapor.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
