Method for creating and updating an enterprise mail sorting database by use of an Intranet. According to the method each person in the database is sent an email that requests him to connect to a web page in order to enter his personal data. Once entered the data are entered into a temporary database in order that they can be compared with a working database in order to ensure automatic updating of the working database. An Independent claim is made for an automated mail sorting system in which updating is carried out via an Intranet.
