Balanced aluminum-copper-magnesium-silicon alloy product for fuselage sheet or lower-wing sheet of aircraft, contains copper, silicon, magnesium, manganese, zirconium, chromium, iron, and aluminum and incidental elements and impurities
Balanced aluminum-copper-magnesium-silicon alloy product comprises 3.6-4.9 weight % copper; 1-1.8 weight % magnesium; less than 0.3 weight % manganese; 0.1-0.4 (preferably 0.15-0.35) weight % silicon; at most 0.15 weight % zirconium; at most 0.15 weight % chromium; at most 0.1 weight % iron; and aluminum and incidental elements and impurities (balance). An Independent claim is also included for a method of producing a balanced aluminum-copper-magnesium-silicon alloy product, comprising casting an ingot containing copper (Cu), magnesium, manganese, silicon, zirconium, chromium, iron and aluminum and incidental elements and impurities as above, where the ingot is cast by semi-continuous direct chill (DC) casting; homogenizing and/or pre-treating the ingot after casting; hot rolling the ingot and optionally cold rolling into a rolled product; solution heat treating; quenching the heat-treated product; stretching the quenched product; and naturally aging the rolled and heat-treated product.
