Device for indicating the physical state or the service state of at least one equipment item (100) within a computer network comprising a control module (400) suitable for classing events, e.g. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps, received by the equipment and diagnosing the state of the equipment based on the traps so classified. An event transformation module (500), provided between the control module and an equipment item accesses data not taken into account by the control module and adds this data item to the data part taken into account in order to improve event classification. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a method for indicating the physical state or the service state of at least one equipment item; (b) and an intermediate processing module for acting between a computer network equipment item and a control module.
