The tensioner for a marine vessel sail has a contact on a rod (7) extending at the base of the jib (1) to exert a traction force along the base. The tensions caused in the jib under the effect of the traction force are homogeneously transmitted over the whole of the surface to prevent creasing. The contact is movable via a carriage (9) supported at the base of a protective case (5) for the jib.
