The headlamp (2) has a piezoelectric motor (34) to displace a mechanism that alters the position of screens (22,26,28) which control spread of the beam inside a headlamp. The piezoelectric motor is outside the optically active zone of the reflector (4). The motor is controlled from outside the headlamp, and may be part of an automatic adjustment that compensates vehicle attitude.
