The ring is made from aluminium or plastic tubing with an outside diameter of 5 mm and an inner diameter of 4 mm in two semi-circular halves. The two half rings have an elastic cord of 2 mm diameter threaded through them, tensioned and joined. The elastic cord holds the two half rings together and enables them to be folded for ease of handling and transport.
