The trolleys (1) have a deposit mechanism which uses a coin or token to release a chain (3) holding a trolley to a file of trolleys, and returns the deposit when the chain is reattached to the file of trolleys. The release of the deposit is controlled by a radio signal (6) which is present if the trolley is within an allowed zone but otherwise not present, so the deposit cannot be released.
