The air supply (7) has a gas filter (10) and a control vane (24) ahead of the filter in the normal sense of air flow. The direction of air flow can be reversed, and air, heated by an air heater (22), directed over the filter to regenerate the active carbon. The air heater is supplied with engine cooling water during regeneration, using an electric pump when the engine has stopped.
