Method for determining if an element (D) with a fingerprint is living or an imitation by means of carrying out of at least an impedance measurement (Zij) of the object and also recording a digital image (i.e.) of the fingerprint. The or each impedance measurement is compared with a range of values defined by a pre-established relationship linking the range to the characteristics of the image. An Independent claim is included for a fingerprint sensor.
